Professionals rate the Lithuanian pavilion

The Lithuanian pavilion at the Exhibition EXPO 2017 in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana has been constantly mentioned among the most popular, most frequented and most interesting ones. On Friday, the international trade show publication EXHIBITOR Magazine announced that the Lithuanian pavilion had received the main award in the Elements and Details category for the LED light installation symbolising the birth of a laser.

The award in the Elements and Details category is granted by a commission comprising professionals. In a letter sent to the pavilion, the magazine’s Editor Travis Stanton personally congratulated the winner with this honourable award and stressed that we should rightly be proud of it. “It is like a moment of lights, energy and speed stopped in an architectural space of great aesthetic value. The LED room made us feel being in the core of a laser created by this country. These were phenomenally futuristic elements. The specific feature of world trade shows is their distinctness, and the LED installation of the Lithuanian pavilion, aimed at drawing attention to Lithuanian lasers, is breath taking and undeniably memorable at all levels”, says the jury in its review on the Lithuanian pavilion.

The installation was created according to the design of Architect Martynas Valevičius from the company Klasikinis Portikas, the winner of the design tendering procedure. The materials and equipment required for the installation were supplied by Scenos Techninis Servisas, the lights were programmed by the light effects wizard Norvydas Birulis, the installation was originally complemented by LED “bent grasses” of the well-known light artist Linas Kutavičius, and music by Composer Saulius Petreikis kept sounding in the pavilion.

The outfit of the pavilion’s central composition needed several tonnes of metal grating, 11 kilometres of cables and three and a half kilometres of LED strips. The local media several times called the light installation the best place for selfies in the whole exhibition, while the largest audiences were drawn by the performances of the Lithuanian New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NICO and the band Subtilu – Z.

EXHIBITOR Magazine has been published in the US for almost three decades. At this year’s contest, the German pavilion received the award in the category of the best large pavilion for the fourth time in a row. The editorial board granted its choice award to France, and more than 50 000 internet users who had voted on the website chose Qatar’s pavilion as their favourite. Five years ago, this publication evaluated the Lithuanian pavilion at the Exhibition EXPO 2012 in South Korea by giving it a special mention in the best small pavilion category.
