Funds raised from emission allowances will go to renovation of individual dwellings

The Lithuanian Environmental Investment Fund (LAAIF) called for grant applications for renovation and installation of renewable energy sources in individual dwellings.

Support will be allocated to owners of residential buildings containing one or two flats who intend to install or have already installed renewable energy sources (sun, wind, biofuel, geothermal energy, etc.) this year and to compensate renovation of residential buildings. Support is being allocated from the Special Programme on Climate Change, which accumulates funds raised from the sale of emission allowances.

“Some residents have been enquiring about this for quite a while and wanted the state to allocate support to owners of not only residential blocks, but also individual dwellings. On a needs basis, we directed part of the funds received from selling emission allowances to this particular sector,” said Minister of Environment Gediminas Kazlauskas.

Calls for applications were placed separately for each financed measure, the allocation per measure is LTL 900,000 and the amount for both measures totals LTL 1.8 million. The planned rate of the grant is up to 30 per cent of total eligible project costs, but cannot exceed the maximum grant rates for small-scale projects approved with the order of the Minister of Environment Mr Kazlauskas.

The Minister of Environment emphasises that one of the essential requirements for the applicants is that they must own individual dwellings containing one or two flats built before 1993. “Support for the installation of renewable energy sources is planned for applicants intending to use renewable energy for their needs rather than sale, i.e. support will not be allocated to projects which are subject to fixed-rate grant schemes,” Mr Kazlauskas explained.
