Against malignant offenders only with bulldozers

The Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis has applied to the Prosecutor's General Office encouraging to ensure that in cases of illegal constructions prosecutors would not only seek to revoke illegally issued documents,  but would also demand to pull down erected buildings.

“It is not enough only to revoke the validity of construction permits or other documents as it is currently being done. Prosecutors should also require that buildings which were erected violating legal acts and whose owners refuse to take measures to correct the violations would be unconditionally pulled down”, says Valentinas Mazuronis. Such a situation exists regarding the construction of the so called "Elija" complex in Šventoji and the holiday home at Mickevičiaus str. 8 in Palanga.

The minister thinks that in other cases it is necessary to look for compromises. “If the owners of buildings agree to cooperate and take measures to reconstruct or transform buildings according to the requirements of legal acts, it would be unwise to pull them down. A possibility to correct mistakes should be allowed," the Minister of Environment highlights.

Prosecutors are also requested to take additional measures to protect the interests of the state. To be more specific: to prosecute also all people who in one way or another contributed to acceptance of illegal administrative acts and who lit the "green light" for illegal constructions.

“People who have done damage to the state or have violated the public interests, can not remain without punishment. Otherwise the authority of the state and the reputation of state institutions will be diminished and this is directly related to people’s confidence in the state. Finally why should we pay for mistakes, which were intentionally or unintentionally made by officials?” asks Valetinas Mazuronis.
