Scaffolding in place to implement new apartment building modernization model2013-06-13
Work has begun on implementing the new apartment building modernization model. In Ignalina, three buildings selected for renovation by the municipality now have scaffolding. “I am glad to see that other municipalities are following closely in Ignalina's footsteps,”- said Vice-minister of Environment Daiva Matonienė. Tomorrow, she will examine these buildings in Ignalina together with Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius.
The renovation process in Ignalina is progressing rapidly. Construction permits have been granted for the renovation of three separate apartment buildings and contractors have been chosen to renovate 33 buildings.
“The nation's apartment building modernization process is accelerating, which is exactly what we meant for it to do. Over a relatively short period, almost 50 municipalities participating in the apartment building energy efficiency improvement program have signed contracts for renovation investment projects,” - said Daiva Matonienė.
According to Valius Serbentas, director of the Home Energy Efficiency Agency, the new apartment building modernization program model is based on having municipalities select buildings for renovation and prepare the renovation investment projects themselves. Citizens will not have to worry about project financing because that will be taken care of by each municipality's appointed energy effectiveness improvement program administrator. They will also be responsible for and will have to monitor renovation works, ensuring that they are done quickly and well.
“We monitor the progress of the renovations daily. We are cooperating with municipalities, investment project executors and banks. We're glad that work has begun in Ignalina. Hopefully, their good example will inspire other municipalities to roll up their sleeves as well,” - said the vice-minister of environment.
