Water supply and wastewater management developed for local outreach2014-01-09
Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis has allocated funding to ten water supply and wastewater treatment development projects around Lithuania. Almost LTL 53 million has been earmarked for the projects from the EU Cohesion Fund and LTL 4 million from the state budget.
About 7,500 residents will benefit from these projects, which envisage building approximately 82km of wastewater networks and about 28km of water supply networks. In addition, six wastewater treatment facilities and one water improvement facility will be set up.
People living in small local communities will also benefit from these projects, once they are implemented. For example, almost LTL 0.5 million has been allocated to develop wastewater networks in the town of Žemaičių Kalvarija whereas a LTL 0.5 million support in Plungė district will allow building 1.3km of wastewater network accessible to 81 users. Slightly over LTL 653,000 has been earmarked for installing wastewater and water supply networks in the Rietavas municipality (Tverai), which will make water supply and wastewater networks available to 89 locals.
