Last year saw growth in the mining of various solid minerals

After analyzing and summarizing the mining data submitted by mineral mining companies, the Lithuanian Geological Service would like to announce that, in 2013, there was growth in the scope of the majority of solid mineral mining operations in Lithuania.

The greatest growth was experienced in gravel (34 percent), peat (33 percent) and dolomite (23 percent) extraction. It's worth mentioning that the increase in peat extraction was due to last year's favorable environmental conditions. The increases in gravel and dolomite extraction attest to recoveries in the nation's construction and inert material production sectors.

The increase in underground mineral water resource extraction (34 percent) is also significant. It is believed that this growth was due to the development of health-related services, which in turn attests to an improvement in the national quality of life.

It should be noted separately that oil extraction decreased consistently over the previous year (in 2013, it decreased by 15 percent). This indicates that the mainland's oil resources are subsiding and running out.
