The Lithuanian Zoo receives help from volunteers2014-07-25
One of the novelties in the activities of the Lithuanian Zoo is the volunteer programme. Volunteers started helping the staff of the Zoo this summer. According to the Director of the Zoo Aurimas Didžiokas, these assistants are not only helping hands but also new ideas and undertakings.
Three young volunteers currently helping in the Zoo are full of ideas. Students Renata Balsytė and Rūta Brazaitytė are very resourceful when making different occupation instruments to be used by animals in their enclosures. They are determined to volunteer in the Zoo for their entire summer vacation. The girls intent to work with animals in future; therefore, they use every opportunity to learn about the life of animals and about their care as much as possible.
Volunteers help handlers distribute food, improve the facades of the enclosures, perform various chores. They also intent to volunteer after their summer vacation is over. Once the new school year stars, the girls will volunteer in the Zoo on weekends.
