Scots plan to invite Lithuanians to architecture festival

On their visit to the Ministry of Environment, Iain Connelly and Neil Baxter, representing the Royal Incorporation of Architects and Scotland, and Karen Anderson from a Scottish architecture and design organisation introduced the Festival of Architecture scheduled to take place in Scotland in 2016. It plans to invite Lithuanian representatives, among others, to present our country’s achievements of architectural creation and the characteristics of the architectural profession and business regulation.

According to the director of the Ministry’s department for territorial planning, urban development and architecture, Marius Narmontas, Scottish architecture and its regulatory framework have been evolving for years, so discovering its experience of promoting architectural projects was extremely useful. The meeting also covered public procurement in the field of architecture with focus on quality rather than price.

The guests shared advice on what should be borne in mind when it comes to shaping a national architecture policy. Because Lithuania still finds itself in the phase of developing the quality criteria for architecture, a more comprehensive insight into the Scottish practice polished by the long-lasting tradition is highly welcome.

Apart from representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the meeting was attended by the chairperson of the Lithuanian Architectural Union, Marius Šaliamoras, director of the Information Centre, Rūta Leitanaitė, and architect Gintautas Blažiūnas.
