Visitors of protected areas buy more than 5 500 volunteer tickets in a month

More than 5 500 volunteer visitor tickets have been purchased since 15 May when the opportunity to support Lithuania’s protected areas was introduced.

“We are pleased that so many people have learned of the opportunity to support the protected areas and used it in just a month. Each volunteer visitor ticket is a small step towards more beautiful and tidier nature where everyone would like to spend their leisure. We thank everyone who supports our initiative and this way enhances awareness and responsible leisure in nature,” said Minister of Environment, Kęstutis Trečiokas.

Visitor tickets are sold at the directorates of the national and regional parks, visitor centres, sites of environmental and educational events, holiday parks, camps, educational trails, routes, etc. The tickets can also be bought on the internet and at the Tiketa and Perlas points of sale.

Although summer is just beginning to gain momentum, Aukštaitija National Park has sold about 1 500 volunteer visitor tickets, Žagarė Regional Park more than 650 and Krekenava Regional Park as many as 1 600. Most of them are EUR 1 five-day tickets to one protected area.

A monthly visitor ticket to one state park costs 5 euros. The price of a monthly visitor ticket to all (4 national and 28 regional) state parks is 10 euros. An annual visitor ticket to all the mentioned state parks costs 20 euros, and such a ticket for a family is 25 euros.

The revenue from visitor tickets will be spent on the maintenance of natural sites and recreational areas, updating of information boards, waste removal, as well as educational nature protection activities, including leaflets, descriptions of nature trails and nature lessons.
