Drones will help protect the environment

In the immediate future, the ammunition of the country’s environmentalists used to fight against environmental offenders will be supplemented with modern aerial surveillance technology, the so-called drones.

“Offenders are becoming increasingly resourceful; therefore, we have to use all available tools for prevention and control of offences and to keep in step with technology. Drones will help observe hardly accessible sites and record offences. They will make the work of inspectors even more effective because, after having looked through the recorded images, it will be clear where exactly control measures should be applied”, said Kęstutis Trečiokas, Minister of Environment.

In total, five unmanned aerial vehicles were acquired for environmental control. They will be distributed and handed over to regional environmental protection departments.

The plans are that the drones acquired by environmentalists will rise into the air in the nearest future and will help record all offences committed during the Salmon 2015 campaign.
