Reference landscapes reflecting the country’s ethnocultural regions selected

Yesterday, Minister of Environment, Kęstutis Trečiokas, held a presentation of the winners of the competition for selecting landscapes that reflect the ethnocultural regions. According to the Minister, the competition has shown that the regions carry out very many good projects that, however, receive inadequate publicity. Sometimes local community initiatives and efforts are more important than EU support as they achieve impressive results.

The following sites have been recognised as the best reference landscapes reflecting the ethnocultural regions:
In Aukštaitija: the Ladakalnis-Ginučiai natural and archaeological complex in the Ignalina Land, Kleboniškiai street-type village and vicinity in Radviliškis district, the historical Sosiai and Liauda Land in Kėdainiai district, and Niūronys street-type village and vicinity in Anykščiai district.

In Žemaitija: the territory of the Bukantė Manor and vicinity (Plungė distr., Žemaitė Memorial Museum), Plateliai Town and vicinity, the Šatrija Landscape Reserve and vicinity, and Veliuona Town.

In Dzūkija: located in Dieveniškės Regional Park, the vicinities of the Bėčionys mound by the ethnographic villages of Poškonys and Rimašiai, and the unique street-type village of Gabrijolai near the River Neris.
