Lithuania to take part in EXPO 2017 International Exposition

On Monday, the Ministry of Environment served as a venue for an entry into an agreement between Lithuania and the organising team of EXPO 2017 International Exposition. The agreement now serves as official confirmation of Lithuanian involvement in the exposition to be hosted in Astana, capital city of Kazakhstan.

The agreement was signed by Rapil Zhoshibayev, Commissioner of EXPO 2017 and the first Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, and Romas Jankauskas, Commissioner of the Lithuanian exposition and the Head of the Exhibitions Division at the Ministry of Environment.

EXPO 2017 exposition is scheduled for opening in exactly a year from now, on 10 June 2017, in Astana and will run for three months. The exposition will focus on future energy.

According to Kęstutis Trečiokas, Minister of Environment, “renewable energy is both a trendy term now and also a relevant and promising field of energy generation. Technologies in this sector can be characterised by extremely rapid development. I trust time will come when we will be able to generate sufficient quantity of solar electricity or using other renewables, without damage to the environment. I am glad to see that over the last decade, Lithuania and Kazakhstan have discovered a number of joint interests across the fields covered by bilateral cooperation. I trust Lithuanian involvement in the exposition will serve to represent the country on the world stage and will further enhance economic ties, encourage investment and open new cooperation opportunities with Kazakhstan”.

The organisers of EXPO 2017 exposition agreed to make available for installation of the Lithuanian pavilion free of charge by the end of 2016, an area of over 530 square meters in the European sector of EXPO 2017 complex soon to be completed in Astana. Lithuanian exposition will take a place beside pavilions of the United Kingdom, Italy and Hungary. The Ministry of Environment is shortly expected to announce a tender on project of the Lithuanian pavilion.

EXPO 2017 will be the twelfth international exposition, where Lithuanian will be taking part, since at the first international exposition hosted by Paris in 1900, Lithuania was an unofficial participant only. EXPO 2017 international exposition will be the seventh exposition with Lithuanian participation entrusted to the Ministry of Environment.
