Oil extraction drops last year

According to information of the Lithuanian Geological Survey under the Ministry of Environment, last year our country extracted 77 370 m3 of oil or by 15 pct. less than in 2015.

Oil is extracted in 15 thoroughly explored fields: Girkaliai, Kretinga, Nausodis, Agluonėnai, Vėžaičiai, Ližiai, Ablinga, Vilkyčiai, Pociai, Diegliai, Sakučiai, South Šiūpariai, Šiūpariai, Genčiai and Šilalė. Presently, oil is not extracted in 3 fields: Auksoras, North Vėžaičiai and Uoksai. The thoroughly explored geological oil deposits amount to 23.88 mln. m3, thoroughly explored initial extractive resources to 7.98 mln. m3, provisionally explored resources (with explorations not yet completed) to 6 661 930 m3, and extractive resources to 150 700 m3.

Permits for the use of hydrocarbon resources in Lithuania have been granted to 7 companies, including Lotos-Geonafta AB, Minijos nafta UAB, Manifoldas UAB, Genčių nafta UAB, LL Investicijos UAB, TanOil UAB and Diseta UAB. Oil extraction is carried out by 5 companies. Oil is extracted from 60 drilled wells only in land fields.

Not a single new well was drilled last year. This year should see the drilling of one branch of an extractive well and 5 wells for surveys of hydrocarbon resources.

Since 1990, a total of about 5 262 000 m3 of oil has been extracted in Lithuania to date.
