EC investigation into waste electrical and electronic equipment management in the EU Member States includes Lithuania


Ministry of Environment last year is one of the events in the investigation of the European Commission into compliance by the EU Member States with the requirements of the directive on the management of such waste. The investigation will be conducted in eight Member States, including Lithuania.
As Dalius Krinickas, Director of the Waste Department of the Ministry of Environment, stated seminars are organised in these countries with the participation of the EC representatives and appointed consultants.

The said seminar was attended by the EC representatives, Bettina Rorz and Maria Banti, and the consultants appointed by the EC from the French consulting and research company Bio by Deloitte. The seminar also included a great number of participants from the domestic waste sector, namely, representatives of the producers and importers organisations EGIO and EEPA, waste electrical and electronic managers, the Association of Municipalities, municipal waste managers, the Ministry of Environment, electrical and electronic equipment producers AB Snaigė and UAB Elgama Elektronika. They delivered presentations and discussed the organisation of waste electrical and electronic equipment collection and management, ecological design of electrical and electronic equipment products, public education and public awareness raising activities in Lithuania.

After this seminar, the EC representatives Bettina Rorz and Maria Banti and the consultants from Bio by Deloitte will report how the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment is implemented in Lithuania. Their report will be published in the study on the situation in the EU Member States dedicated to this theme.
